The Nelmac treatment team operates and maintains two treatment facilities servicing the wider Nelson area and a large reticulation network of pump stations and rising mains.

Bell Island is the largest of the two treatment facilities, it provides treatment for a population base spanning from Nelson and Richmond to Mapua. 

It is a complex treatment plant comprising of activated sludge process, A.T.A.D sludge digestion and an extensive pond system. 

There is a continual strive for improvement, from utilising environmentally friendly solutions such as the newly installed wind-powered mixer/aerators in the pond system, forestry disposal of treated biosolid, as well as utilising cutting edge technology like s::can influent monitoring to analyse load patterns and troubleshoot process operation. It is a dynamic team environment where focus is on continual process improvement and optimisation always looking to the future. 
Key tasks in this role include:
- Ensuring optimal day to day operation of the treatment system
- Working alongside an experienced team of operators and mechanical engineers
- Monitoring and trending of plant data and identifying abnormalities based upon laboratory and process data results
- Problem solving of treatment and mechanical issues and developing initiatives to further optimise the treatment process
- Maintaining a high level of health and safety culture within the team
- Implementation of preventative maintenance programmes
- National Certificate in Wastewater Treatment or working towards (highly desirable). 

As a 24/7 operation the role demands flexibility for team members in working hours and being part of an after-hours duty roster.
