Landscape Maintenance Gardener

We are seeking a Full-time Landscape Maintenance Gardener for our Nelson Team to undertake regular garden maintenance duties for our residential and commercial clients.

You will be responsible for carrying out a full range of garden maintenance activities for our Residential and Commercial clients including but not limited to:

  • Weed control
  • Herbicide and insecticide spraying
  • Planting of trees and shrubs
  • Mowing
  • Trimming hedges and
  • Formative pruning.

To be successful you will have the following skills/qualifications:

  • Experience in the horticulture industry
  • Knowledge of New Zealand plants, pests and disease management
  • Experience in and competence using a full range of garden maintenance equipment
  • Full Class 1 drivers licence
  • Level 4 Certificate in Amenity Horticulture (or prepared to work towards this)
  • Growsafe certificate (preferred).

Our Conservation team is expanding so we are looking to grow our committed team of Conservation Rangers. Our Rangers carry out a full range of conservation ranger activities including but not limited to pest control, weed control, re-vegetation, and construction and maintenance of tracks.  

This role is physically demanding which will see you working on a range of hand tools and light machinery, including chainsaws and scrub bars, and being outdoors in all elements. Some heavy lifting may also be required.

To be successful you will need to have the following:

•    Hands on, practical experience in the conservation and/or biosecurity field, ideally with a qualification in the field
•    A high degree of pest plant identification required
•    A current driver’s licence with four wheel drive experience
•    Wheels tracks and rollers licence
•    Digger experience would be an advantage
•    Experience using chainsaws, hand tools and light machinery, ideally with NZQA credits
•    A good degree of physical fitness
•    Flexibility to work away from home on occasion
•    The ability and attitude to work in all weather conditions and terrain
•    A real desire to work in and contribute to a supportive team environment
•    A genuine passion for the environment in which we live
•    On the job initiative and good communications skills
•    Willingness to work in Tasman/Nelson districts as contracts demand
•    A good level of health and safety awareness.

Mower Operator

At Nelmac we recognise that mowing is a specialist skill and our mowing professionals take enormous pride in maintaining Nelson’s outdoor areas.  In this role you will undertake mowing, with commercial sized ride on mowers, operate tractors, a range of weedeaters and other small plant.  You will also carry out a range of other parks and reserves maintenance activities when you are not busy mowing.  This work is heavy and demanding, so you will require a very good level of physical fitness.

During the increased growing months of Spring and Autumn and any unseasonably high growth periods there is the requirement that you will need to work longer hours.  

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess the following skills and attributes: 
•    Proven experience in operating large ride on mowing machinery, large commercial out-front mowers with an emphasis on Kubota mowers
•    Experience in carrying out basic repairs and maintenance on mowers and small plant
•    An understanding of current Health & Safety legislation
•    A full drivers licence (HT preferred) 
•    A high level of personal fitness and desire to work outdoors
•    Be proactive, have a strong customer service focus and commitment to completing top quality work.

Crew Leader - Water Services

Due to internal staff movement we have a position available for a Crew Leader to join the Operations team in the Water Division.  This role involves leading Water crews and overseeing daily operations to ensure successful project outcomes.

No two days will be the same in this position, with leadership, excellent communication, planning and organisational skills being key to success. You will be a team leader who has an eye for detail and the ability to think on the spot to resolve operational issues as they occur.

The Crew Leader will be responsible for:
-    Effectively leading and supervising activities for the water team

Full clean drivers licence (class 2 endorsed preferred but not essential). 

To be successful as a Water Service Person / Drainlayer you will undertake the full range of activities around maintenance and improvement of water services. You will hold the required tickets as a certified drainlayer and be able to work in and around: city assets including storm water drains, subdivisions, machine operating, trenching, pipe laying, PRV-BFP maintenance and plumbing work. You will require a full clean drivers licence.

To be successful you will need to be a team player with a willingness to get stuck in and get the job done.

There will be times when you are required to work after hours as well as on a duty roster to ensure optimum operation for Nelmac customers. You will be supported by a well-resourced competent team who take pride in their work as much as you will.
