We currently have a vacancy for a Climbing Arborist to join our team. This is a permanent full-time role situated in the beautiful Nelson region.

Nelmac has a long and strong association with arboriculture in New Zealand and operates a well-equipped and supportive team, with regular opportunities for some excellent climbing challenges. The role offers a great deal of diversity, from maintaining Nelson’s street trees to climbing and dismantling large residential trees. Nelmac also maintains Nelson City Council’s beautiful heritage trees. This is your opportunity to climb and take care of some of New Zealand’s great trees.

Your skills and experience will see you being able to lead by example with your expert arboriculture capabilities. 

To be successful in the role you will have:
• experience in all aspects of professional arboriculture contracting
• competence in rope and harness climbing, EWP operation
• a commitment to safe, efficient, quality work
• an accurate tree identification skillset
• a general mechanical aptitude
• pride in the work they do.

We will provide you with up to date climbing gear and a great working environment. 
You must also have a clean full class 1& 2 driver’s licence, NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa, and will be required to undergo pre-employment medical checks and drug screening.

Nelmac have positions available for General Labourers, Skilled Excavator Operators and Water Service Person/Drainlayers.

The multiple positions available will involve working with the Projects 23 Team carrying out a range of building and civil construction activities within the Nelson and Tasman regions. Ideally, you will have had experience working in either the civil construction or similar industry. 

To be successful as a General Labourer you will have quality workmanship, self-management and the ability to get the job done. Be trustworthy with a high level of reliability and show tenacity and the ability to see jobs through to their successful completion. Current NZ Driver’s License, Class 2 essential and WTR endorsements preferred.

To be successful as a Skilled Excavator Operator role you will undertake a full range of activities around earth works within subdivisions, trenching, and rock placement. You will have a proven work history in bulk earthworks and civil operations, experience operating various sized digger machinery from 1.5T to 20T and WTR tickets. Full clean drivers licence (class 2 endorsed preferred but not essential). 

To be successful as a Water Service Person / Drainlayer you will undertake the full range of activities around maintenance and improvement of water services. You will hold the required tickets as a certified drainlayer and be able to work in and around: city assets including storm water drains, subdivisions, machine operating, trenching, pipe laying, PRV-BFP maintenance and plumbing work. You will require a full clean drivers licence.

To be successful you will need to be a team player with a willingness to get stuck in and get the job done.

There will be times when you are required to work after hours as well as on a duty roster to ensure optimum operation for Nelmac customers. You will be supported by a well-resourced competent team who take pride in their work as much as you will.

Drainage Operator - 3 Waters Team

The position will involve working with the Drainage Team carrying out a range of Utilities Maintenance and Civil Construction activities within the Nelson and Tasman regions.

To be successful you will ideally: 
• have experience working in either the civil construction or similar industry
• be trustworthy with a high level of reliability and the ability to self-manage and work autonomously
• be able to work well within a team environment
• have tenacity and the ability to see jobs through to their successful completion regardless of any challenges that may arise
• have a commitment to excellent customer service
• be flexible and have a willingness and ability to work after hours - as well as on a duty roster to ensure optimum operation for Nelmac customers, and

Nelmac is a key player in the competitive contracting industry across the top of the South. Our Wastewater team operates and maintains the reticulation and pumping stations for sewer and storm water in Nelson and is responsible for the two Wastewater Treatment Plants in the Nelson region. 

Treatment of wastewater is critical to our region’s infrastructure and demands skilled, experienced people that take a real pride in their work. An aptitude for mechanical engineering, keeping up with new technologies and a desire to work in a process environment will be a must, as is a National Certificate or National Diploma in Wastewater Treatment. Good computer skills and previous plant operating experience will be required.

An analytical mind, problem solving and excellent people skills are crucial to being an effective operator. 

Key tasks in this role include:
- Ensuring optimal day to day operation of the treatment system
- Working alongside an experienced team of operators and mechanical engineers
- Monitoring and trending of plant data and identifying abnormalities based upon laboratory and process data results
- Problem solving of treatment and mechanical issues and developing initiatives to further optimise the treatment process
- Maintaining a high level of health and safety culture within the team
- Implementation of preventative maintenance programmes. 

As a 24/7 operation the role demands flexibility for team members in working hours and being part of an after-hours duty roster.

Due to an internal transfer our Nursery team are seeking a Nursery Production Assistant who can carry out the propagation and production of high quality nursery crops and assist with the development of the nursery business. You will need to be a proactive, positive member of the Nursery team and have a positive influence on people, customers and our Nursery services.

To be successful in this role you must have technical or industry experience in a nursery environment, a current Growsafe Certificate and preferably hold a Certificate in Horticulture Level 3 or Nursery Production. A good level of physical fitness and a genuine enthusiasm to work in the outdoors, with native plants, and in a team environment as well as alongside and in support of volunteers is required. 

Key to this role is high attention to detail, a flexible attitude to getting the job done, a strong commitment to customer service, and a commitment to and understanding of key health and safety principles and practices. First Aid and Tractor Driving Certificates would also be an advantage.
