Nelson’s parks and reserves are renowned for their beauty, and Nelmac gardeners hold the enviable position of working in them each and every day. The responsibilities are broad from planting through to maintaining shrub gardens within our parks, street gardens, esplanades and walkways.

We are seeking a permanent, full-time Gardener to join our Nelson Parks & Reserves Team in this varied and rewarding role.

The successful applicant will carry out a full range of garden maintenance activities including;

  • maintaining a range of garden types

  • weed control and herbicide spraying

  • planting of trees and shrubs

  • pruning

  • litter control

  • turf renovations

  • operation of small plant such as blowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws and chippers.

Ideally you will have hands on experience working in a professional garden maintenance role or in amenity horticulture, along with a keen eye for detail, sound organisational ability and a good degree of physical fitness. A full drivers licence is essential. A Growsafe certificate is preferred but not essential.

Landscape Gardener Fixed-term Full-time (Marlborough)

We are seeking a fixed-term, full-time Landscape Gardener for our Marlborough Team to undertake regular garden maintenance duties for our residential and commercial clients.  Ideally the successful applicant will be available from early November 2018 to late-April 2019.  This is a great opportunity to put your green fingers to work in a team that prides themselves on looking after each other and offering the best possible service to our clients.  In this role you will have the opportunity to grow and develop your skillset on a variety of diverse properties.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out a full range of landscape garden maintenance activities

  • Weed control and herbicide spraying, planting of trees and shrubs, planting and maintenance of bedding displays (to name just a few).

To be successful you will have the following skills/qualifications:

  • Experience in the horticulture industry preferable

  • Experience in and competence using a full range of garden maintenance equipment

Operations Manager - Conservation (Monitoring)

Nelmac have a strong reputation for delivering conservation work including ecological restoration, biosecurity programmes (including monitoring) and track building and maintenance.  Nelmac is currently undertaking possum monitoring projects across the top of the South Island, with opportunities for further growth within the Conservation Division.

Reporting to the National Projects Manager, this Operations Manager role has overall responsibility for assuming management and leadership responsibility for all operational functions within the Vector Quality Control contract.  This involves management and leadership of staff, services and resources to deliver contract terms and business objectives.

As part of a cooperative team, you will assist in the continuation of effectively building a team of professionals who can deliver on contract requirements.  Your ability to undertake quality assurance and Health & Safety audits and work with clients, staff, stakeholders and landowners to ensure improvements where required, will help ensure a successful outcome for all.

With a down to earth, outgoing, approachable interpersonal style you’ll have the ability to influence and engage with people at all levels both internally and externally. Being operationally minded you’ll also enjoy getting to the heart of issues and opportunities to provide pragmatic advice and negotiate solutions that best meet the needs of all parties.

Technical and industry related experience in conservation and operations management combined with a relevant tertiary qualification is preferred.  However, applications from outside the industry are also encouraged.

Mower Operator

At Nelmac we recognise that mowing is a specialist skill and our mowing professionals take enormous pride in maintaining Nelson’s outdoor areas.  In this role you will undertake mowing, with commercial sized ride on mowers, operate tractors, a range of weedeaters and other small plant.  You will also carry out a range of other parks and reserves maintenance activities when you are not busy mowing.  This work is heavy and demanding, so you will require a very good level of physical fitness.

During the increased growing months of Spring and Autumn and any unseasonably high growth periods there is the requirement that you will need to work longer hours.  

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess the following skills and attributes: 
•    Proven experience in operating large ride on mowing machinery, large commercial out-front mowers with an emphasis on Kubota mowers
•    Experience in carrying out basic repairs and maintenance on mowers and small plant
•    An understanding of current Health & Safety legislation
•    A full drivers licence (HT preferred) 
•    A high level of personal fitness and desire to work outdoors
•    Be proactive, have a strong customer service focus and commitment to completing top quality work.

Full clean drivers licence (class 2 endorsed preferred but not essential). 

To be successful as a Water Service Person / Drainlayer you will undertake the full range of activities around maintenance and improvement of water services. You will hold the required tickets as a certified drainlayer and be able to work in and around: city assets including storm water drains, subdivisions, machine operating, trenching, pipe laying, PRV-BFP maintenance and plumbing work. You will require a full clean drivers licence.

To be successful you will need to be a team player with a willingness to get stuck in and get the job done.

There will be times when you are required to work after hours as well as on a duty roster to ensure optimum operation for Nelmac customers. You will be supported by a well-resourced competent team who take pride in their work as much as you will.
